Planning Your Wedding in Lockdown

Planning a Wedding is no easy task at the best of times, but lockdown makes it even more difficult. You can’t visit your venue, you can’t try on your dress, you can’t meet your suppliers – it must be a nightmare! But… there are lots of things you can do! Here are our top five tips for planning your big day during lockdown.

1. Use Social Media

Social media has always been a great planning tool, but it is absolutely vital during lockdown.

Pinterest and Instagram are fantastic for inspiration – everything from the cake and the cutlery to the dress and the dancing. With so many images out there, remember to create boards on Pinterest and bookmark images on Instagram so that you can find your favourite images again to share with family and friends. Try searching for local venues and suppliers, as well as local hashtags (e.g. #dumfriesweddings #dumfriesandgallowayweddings #dumfriesdj #dumfriesphotographer #rkdjwedding) to get some local inspiration.

Everyone is familiar with Facebook, but have you thought about using it for your planning? There are so many things you can use it for. You can search for local suppliers, read reviews and see photos of their latest work. It’s also great for keeping in touch. Whether it’s a quick message to your Bridesmaid, a video call with your Wedding party or checking in with your suppliers – it’s so easy. Remember to follow all of your local suppliers to keep up to date with the latest offers and discounts – there’s some great deals out there at the moment!

2. Book Suppliers

With so many Weddings and Event postponing to later in 2020 or 2021, suppliers are booking up really fast. You really want to try and book suppliers as soon as you can to avoid disappointment. Whilst you can’t meet up with them in person, you can always give them a ring or arrange a video call.

3. All the Small Things

You might have a bit more time for planning during lockdown so think about the small things that could make your big day that little bit more special. It could be framed photos of your parents’ and grandparents’ Weddings or the traditional something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Things will get really busy after lockdown, so why not get organised now!

4. DIY

Sticking with the idea that you might have a bit more time at the moment, could you save yourself some money and do a little DIY? Whether it’s bunting, table centres, invitations, place cards, favours… the list goes on and on. Check out Pinterest and Instagram for some inspiration and get creative!

5. Look After Yourself

Whilst it’s great to plan ahead, there’s no getting away from the fact that this is a difficult and stressful time. Remember to take time for yourself and enjoy the planning for your big day. Arrange a video call with your Wedding Party to chat through your plans or just have fun with a virtual quiz, Mr & Mrs competition or movie night (Bridesmaids is always a good shout for a movie night!). Stay positive and look forward to what is going to be the best day of your life!

What Customers Said...

Amazing set up and great songs played by Ross all night and he ensured the dance floor was never empty. Great dialogue throughout our booking with Ross and his website is great once you get the link to pick your songs for the big day. Ross ensured the party flowed well with a great mix of songs to fit all genres. Would highly recommend Ross if you are needing a dj for any occasion especially a wedding.

A big big thank you to Ross who made my 50th 80’s themed party absolutely wonderful. He played a lot of the music I had asked for previously, he played requests, floor fillers, slow dances and come Ceilidh music for a wee jig....I think I was on the dance floor all night, I highly recommend him and get in there early for your parties as he is so popular!

Ross was our DJ and ceilidh caller for our wedding on 29th June. His requests system worked extremely well and he did a good job getting people up to dance. His set up and lighting added to our decor and Ross himself has been a pleasure to work with on the run up to our big day. Thanks again, Ross!

We'd just like to say a humongous THANK YOU!!! you were absolutely fabulous 👌

Rob & Rebecca Dartnall

Ross was the piper and DJ for our wedding. He did an amazing job for both. The piping was absolutely beautiful and he even braved the cold and high winds to come up into the hills so we could get pictures and footage for our wedding film. Everyone enjoyed the nights music and as an extra he even captured some awesome pictures of everyone dancing. We would recommend him to anyone. Thank you Ross!
